D-Day Remembrance Service Celebrating Poole’s Historic Contribution

A remembrance service will take place at the D-Day Memorial in Poole on Saturday, June 6, starting at 10:50 am. This event commemorates Poole’s significant role as the third largest embarkation port during Operation Overlord in 1944. It includes a main service and a procession to the nearby U.S. Coastguard Memorial for a brief second service. Veterans’ associations are invited to attend with standards, and the community is encouraged to participate. Recently, a blue plaque was installed at Customs House to honor the over 300 vessels and thousands of troops that departed from Poole during the operation.
