Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole (BCP) Council is advocating for the introduction of an overnight visitor levy, or tourist tax, to ease the burden on local services from over 10 million annual visitors. This levy would apply to stays in hotels, holiday lets, and B&Bs. The UK Government introduced the concept in the 2025 Autumn Budget and reaffirmed it in the King’s Speech. Councillor Richard Herrett believes the levy can support growth and job protection, while Andy Lennox emphasizes that any generated funds should be specifically allocated for tourism, expressing concerns about additional taxation.
