Dorset Residents Urged to Remain Vigilant Against Scams

Dorset Police is urging residents to report fraud to national agencies, emphasizing the dangers of scammers posing as police, tax officials, or distressed relatives. Victims are often coerced into buying gift cards (e.g., Apple, Amazon) and sharing the codes, leading to instant theft. Additionally, criminals may copy and reseal gift card packaging, draining funds shortly after activation. Police advise shoppers to inspect packaging, keep receipts, and verify card balances right after purchase. If asked to pay with gift cards, residents should refuse and report to Dorset Police at 101 or through Action Fraud.
