Dorset care organisations experience increase in volunteer hours

In the last quarter of 2025, 208 volunteers logged 3,806 hours for Dorset Healthcare University NHS Foundation Trust, a remarkable 176% increase from 2024. David Eccles from Ansvar emphasized the critical role volunteers play in supporting care services amid rising demand. He noted that while volunteers provide substantial support, they often lack the training and supervision afforded to paid staff. The Government’s Community Life Survey indicated that 19% of Dorset residents volunteered at least monthly, while national data showed only 6% of UK adults volunteer in care homes. Enhanced training and liability measures for volunteers were highlighted as vital.
