Dorset Residents Facing Cuckooing Criminal Offences

Cuckooing, a serious crime where criminals exploit vulnerable individuals by taking over their homes, has become a specific offense under the Crime and Policing Act as of April 29. The Dorset charity WithYou reported a rising trend in such cases, helping 73 victims in Bournemouth, Christchurch, and Poole last year. Sam Chappell, their cuckooing team lead, emphasized the need for a multi-agency approach prioritizing victims’ safety. Many victims remain unaware or too afraid to seek help. Collaboration with Dorset Police and BCP Council aims to identify and support victims through awareness of unusual behaviors in affected properties.
