Katie O’Donnell, a Bournemouth University student, won the 2026 Orwell Society and National Union of Journalists Young Journalist’s Award for her review of Ethel Cain’s album, Preacher’s Daughter. This honor, aimed at young journalists aged 18-25 in the UK, featured entries judged by a panel that included prominent journalists. O’Donnell, the first BU student to receive this award, expressed that winning was "a dream come true" and validated her pursuit of music journalism. The award ceremony took place in London, where she met George Orwell’s son and received £750, along with memberships to the NUJ and Orwell Society.
