Bournemouth Kaiser Chiefs concert cancelled after ten years

The 2016 Night Air concert next to Boscombe Pier is now remembered for a bizarre aquatic invasion rather than the scheduled performances. An exceptionally high spring tide, amplified by strong southerly winds, swamped the audience just before the Kaiser Chiefs were set to perform. Fans hilariously created sandcastles to avoid the waves, while organizers futilely attempted to build a barrier with a digger. The concert was called off minutes before the headliners took the stage, leading to social media comments from the band about never being “rained off by the sea.” The event ultimately left a lasting, odd mark on Bournemouth’s entertainment history.
