Former Dorset officer charged after Castlepoint incident

On May 15, 2026, Lorne Castle, a former Dorset Police officer, is set to appear in Reading Magistrates’ Court, charged with causing grievous bodily harm without intent. The charge follows an incident on June 19, 2025, where Castle allegedly seriously injured Daniel Meyrick outside Castlepoint Shopping Centre after performing a citizen’s arrest on a suspected shoplifter. The charge is under Section 20 of the Offences Against the Person Act 1861, which accuses him of unlawfully inflicting grievous bodily harm. Castle’s court appearance is scheduled for May 27, 2026.
