BCP Council supports measures to tackle rise in short-term lets

At a full council meeting, a motion by Green Councillor Sara Armstrong and supported by Liberal Democrat Councillor Richard Herrett was approved. It aims to balance the interests of residents, businesses, and the tourism sector in Bournemouth and BCP. With over 4,500 short-term let listings, the area faces challenges including a 20% rise in homelessness applications since 2021. Armstrong emphasized the need for balanced regulations to address growing strain on housing and support for local communities. The motion includes better enforcement and data collection on short-term lets and calls for a national registration scheme to enhance local control over these accommodations.
