Former Dorset Police officer Lorne Castle charged with GBH

Lorne Castle, 47, is charged with causing grievous bodily harm to Daniel Meyrick during an incident outside Castlepoint shopping center in Bournemouth on June 19, 2022. This altercation occurred shortly after Castle had left his position as a Dorset Police officer. Eyewitnesses reported him detaining an alleged shoplifter at the Nike store in a “citizen’s arrest.” The Crown Prosecution Service has accused Castle of unlawfully inflicting serious injury under section 20 of the Offences Against the Person Act 1861. He is scheduled to appear at Reading Magistrates’ Court on May 27 for the first hearing related to the charge.
