Dorset one of the UK’s oldest areas by population

A report by Opera Beds reveals that 30.5% of Dorset’s population is aged 65 and over, significantly higher than the national average of 20.33%. Dorset ranks fifth in the UK for older residents, with North Norfolk having the highest at 34.9%. The findings indicate that coastal and rural areas are becoming popular retirement destinations. Barbara Franks from Opera Beds emphasizes the importance of support for maintaining independence at home, suggesting that small adjustments can significantly enhance daily comfort and mobility. In contrast, London areas like Tower Hamlets have only 5.9% of their population aged 65 or older.
