Dorset resident approached by scammer impersonating Met Police officer

Sherborne Police reported a phone scam where the victim received a call from someone pretending to be from the Met Police fraud unit. The caller falsely claimed they had arrested a criminal tied to cloned bank cards and asked the resident for fabricated badge details for verification. The scammer tried to maintain the call, suggesting a transfer to the real police. When questioned, the scammer hung up. Police warned that genuine officers will never ask for financial information. They advised anyone receiving such calls to hang up and report them through official fraud channels.
