Wildlife tower granted approval on Dorset farm for wildlife

The Countryside Regeneration Trust has proposed building a timber and stone tower in Ham Down Field to support local biodiversity, particularly for hibernating, roosting, and nesting birds and insects. The 5-meter tall structure, designed to attract species like owls, kestrels, and bats, will occupy just over a square meter. Despite being outside typical planning guidelines for open countryside, the project received approval due to its ecological intentions and local support from Sturminster Newton Parish Council. The Barn Owl Trust, with prior successful similar constructions, has aided in the design of the tower. For more details, see Dorset Council’s website.
