Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service plans to close four fire stations in each county due to “financial pressures” and reduced government funding. The controversial proposal affects 96 firefighter roles, eight fire engines, and six specialist vehicles. Those at risk include stations in Bradford on Avon, Charmouth, Cranborne, Hamworthy, Maiden Newton, Mere, Ramsbury, and Wilton. The consultation for public feedback ends on May 15, with a final decision expected from elected members on June 30. The service acknowledges that the closures will not be welcomed by communities or staff but emphasizes the necessity to maintain a balanced budget.
