Four-year-old boy has eye removed after mother notices ‘white glow’

Maria Simeonidis, 37, noticed a white glow in her son Isaac’s right eye during his birthday celebration. Initially dismissing it, she grew concerned when her partner also observed it. An optician referred them to the hospital, where doctors suspected retinoblastoma, a rare eye cancer. Isaac underwent six months of successful chemotherapy but relapsed twice. Eventually, doctors recommended removing his affected eye and fitting him with a prosthetic. Maria expressed her emotional turmoil while explaining the situation to family and Isaac’s brother. Now fitted with a prosthetic eye, Isaac is reportedly happy and understands his condition. The Childhood Eye Cancer Trust highlights the importance of awareness regarding symptoms of eye cancer.
