Martin Shaw, a photographer from Corfe Mullen, spotted a pod of about 15 dolphins while birdwatching near Durlston on May 5. Initially mistaking them for seals, he realized they were dolphins when he saw their dorsal fins. This sighting was notable since he had only seen one dolphin in UK waters before. Shaw, who recalled a local bottlenose dolphin named Danny who died in 2020, described the experience as “very special.” He enjoyed watching the dolphins leap for about ten minutes and plans to keep an eye out for future sightings in the area.
