Julian’s Bridge in Wimborne to undergo single-lane reduction

Dorset Council is piloting a one-way traffic system on Julian’s Bridge in Wimborne from May 26 to July 3, allowing for a dedicated footway to enhance pedestrian safety. The historic bridge, currently facilitating two-way traffic, has raised safety concerns for pedestrians who often share the narrow carriageway with vehicles. The trial aims to evaluate traffic flow and pedestrian safety improvements, using data from the busy period to inform future options. Councillor Jon Andrews acknowledged the community’s concerns and highlighted the bridge’s importance. Upon trial completion, normal traffic conditions will resume. Traffic surveys will guide any long-term solutions.
