Chad Antony Martin Smedburg, 36, from Ringwood, was sentenced to 10 years in prison for repeated violent assaults and rape against a female victim. His crimes occurred over several months despite the victim’s lack of consent. Smedburg pleaded guilty to rape, three counts of assault causing bodily harm, and additional offenses. After reporting the abuse, the victim was supported by law enforcement and an independent advisor during the investigation. Following the court process, he was placed under the supervision of a police unit focused on high-risk violent offenders. Detectives commended the victim’s bravery.
