The Fire Brigades Union (FBU) in Dorset and Wiltshire is considering industrial action to oppose the closure of eight on-call fire stations due to a £1.2 million financial shortfall in the Dorset & Wiltshire Fire Service. Affected stations include Charmouth, Maiden Newton, Cranborne, and Hamworthy. While discussions are ongoing to find a resolution, FBU General Secretary Steve Wright highlighted past successes in halting cuts through threats of strikes. The financial strain has led to a 19.5% reduction in government funding, prompting the authority to consult the public on these closures, which many fear would compromise safety.
