The A30 is closed in Sherborne due to a major fire at the former Newell House School, a grade II listed derelict building, rendering it unsafe. Approximately 35 firefighters responded to the blaze on April 26. The closure stretches from Cornhill between Acreman Street and the junction with Marston Road and is expected to last until May 17 at 6:00 PM. Sherborne’s Mayor, Jill Warburton, expressed gratitude to the firefighters for their swift response and acknowledged the police for maintaining pedestrian safety. Residents are advised to avoid the area and follow guidance from emergency services. More updates are available on the Dorset Council travel page.
