The RNLI is experiencing an increase in callouts along the Dorset and Hampshire coast during summer months, primarily due to families engaging in activities like paddleboarding and children getting lost. Senior Water Safety Manager Tony Wafer emphasized the importance of swimming between red and yellow flags, supervising children, and wearing buoyancy aids on paddleboards. With approximately 138 drownings annually, males over 15 are notably at risk. The RNLI promotes swimming education as a vital life skill, aiming to incorporate water safety into the national curriculum by 2040. Their Poole HQ also features a simulation lifeboat for volunteer training.
