Over 14,000 rental homes to benefit from Renters’ Rights Act

The Renters’ Rights Act, effective from May 1, is a significant reform for renters in Bournemouth West, impacting 14,199 private rental homes. MP Jessica Toale highlighted the act’s importance in providing security by banning Section 21 ‘no-fault’ evictions and limiting rent increases to once a year. Additional protections include capping upfront payments, banning bidding wars, and strengthening safeguards against discrimination for families and benefit recipients. Councils also gain enhanced enforcement powers, allowing fines up to £40,000 for non-compliant landlords, while the government invests in improving the justice system for tenants and landlords.
