Whitbread, the owner of Premier Inn, plans to close its branded restaurants, including Beefeater, to focus solely on its hotel business in a new five-year strategy. The closures will allow for the conversion of many restaurant spaces into approximately 600 new Premier Inn rooms. Although the proposal is under consultation, it is expected that around 3,800 jobs will be affected from a workforce of 30,000 across the UK and Ireland. A spokesperson emphasized their commitment to redeploy impacted staff and highlighted the success of previous conversion efforts in expanding hotel capacity.
