Olivia’s Law prioritises victims and families over offenders

The Victims and Courts Act, recently passed in Parliament, allows additional prison time and loss of privileges for those refusing to attend court. This legislation, inspired by the murder of nine-year-old Olivia Pratt Korbel in 2022—whose killer did not appear for sentencing—includes “Olivia’s Law.” Tom Hayes, MP for Bournemouth East, emphasized the law’s focus on victims over criminals. A spokesperson for the Olivia’s Butterfly Foundation expressed pride that Olivia’s name will contribute to meaningful change. This law aims to support grieving families by ensuring accountability in court proceedings.
