Matthew Legg, 34, caused a serious motorcycle accident at the Thickthorne Cross junction while driving his Toyota. On June 29, 2022, he pulled out in front of a group of motorcyclists, resulting in one rider sustaining severe injuries, including a shattered pelvis and fractures. Witnesses confirmed that the motorcyclists were visible and not speeding. The injured man required extensive surgery and now suffers a significant loss of dexterity, affecting his ability to work. Judge Robert Pawson described the junction as risky and decided against imprisonment for Legg, sentencing him to six months suspended, a driving ban, community service, and fines.
