A former school building, Newell House, has been in a state of neglect and vandalism, prompting Sir Christopher Coville to advocate for an independent inquiry. He expressed concerns that Dorset Council has not taken sufficient action despite multiple warnings about the building’s deterioration and security issues. Coville’s group, part of the Dorset Campaign to Protect Rural England, has lobbied for years for measures to protect this Grade 2 listed site. He criticized local officials for complacency and called on the inquiry to hold Dorset Council accountable and suggest improvements in safeguarding the area’s historic structures.
