A Freedom of Information request to Dorset Police revealed an increase in speeding offences, from 67,846 in 2023 to 74,107 by 2025. While many drivers were caught, only 3.5% faced court referrals. In 2025, 2,629 cases went to prosecution. Most offenders were offered speed awareness courses, with 44,476 receiving this option in 2025, and 34,937 completing it. Additionally, 22,008 drivers received fixed penalty offers. If caught, registered vehicle keepers must return a notice identifying the driver within 28 days to avoid harsher penalties, including six penalty points and a £1,000 fine for non-compliance.
