Dorset sees rise in sex crimes robberies and shoplifting

Data from the Office of National Statistics reveals a 3.3% rise in sexual offences in Dorset from 2024 to 2025, totalling 2,308 incidents. Robberies surged by 8.9%, and shoplifting increased by 5%. Despite these upticks, overall crime in the county decreased by 9.2%, exceeding the national reduction of 1.9%. Notably, stalking and harassment saw a 6.5% decline. Deputy Chief Constable Rachel Farrell highlighted efforts to tackle crime groups, stressing victim support and thorough investigations. Dorset is now the fourth safest county in the UK, according to Police Commissioner David Sidwick, who acknowledged ongoing issues like shoplifting.
