Care Home Worker Wins Judo Gold After Cancer Surgery

Danny Murphy, 64, a maintenance man at Highcliffe Nursing Home, won the under 100kg, over-60s category at the British Veterans Open in London, just seven months after undergoing surgery for prostate cancer. He began judo over 40 years ago and used the competition as motivation for recovery. To regain his fitness, Murphy followed the NHS Couch to 5K plan and completed a 56-mile challenge, raising nearly £500 for Prostate Cancer UK with support from colleagues. Tracey Millar, a regional operations manager, praised him as an inspiring team member who has returned to work full-time following his recovery.
