DWP: Poole mother accused of fraudulently claiming Universal Credit

Julie Green, 45, from Poole, admitted to submitting fraudulent invoices for Universal Credit, claiming benefits she was not entitled to. Appearing in Poole Magistrates’ Court, she pleaded guilty to fraud by false representation. Green initially claimed £1,215 monthly but inflated it to £2,430 using invoices from a former childminder who had stopped working. A Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) investigation revealed discrepancies, leading to her confession and a total of £28,463 claimed fraudulently from September 2022 to July 2024. She received a nine-month suspended sentence, along with prosecution costs and a victim surcharge.
