Aldi plans to demolish historic property in Dorset

Aldi is seeking approval to demolish Railway Cottage, a bungalow with historical ties to a former railway crossing, located near their Canford Bottom store. Although initially included in their plans, Aldi now claims the demolition will enhance landscaping. However, local residents and the town council oppose the removal, citing its historical significance and the ongoing need for housing in the area. Aldi argues the building’s extensive alterations negate its heritage value, asserting that it has lost much of its original character. Critics warn that demolishing the cottage would erase a piece of local history.
