Charminster Library has been closed since December due to a partial ceiling collapse and additional health hazards, including asbestos contamination. A detailed assessment revealed significant structural damage, necessitating extensive repairs estimated at £680,000, for which funding has not yet been secured. Required repairs include asbestos removal, ceiling replacements, and roof reconstruction. Residents can use alternate libraries in Bournemouth, Christchurch, and Poole, or access online resources like eBooks and audiobooks. The council is exploring funding options, but repairs will take around 20 weeks once resources are available. No extension of hours at nearby libraries is planned.
