In October, BCP Council approved the establishment of new town councils following a community governance review, with Bournemouth narrowly passing at 34-31. Broadstone and Poole were approved at 36-24. A proposal to delay council establishment until 2027 was rejected (32-35). Town councils manage local services like allotments, bus shelters, community events, and more. They can receive grants and enforce local regulations on littering and other offenses. Unlike BCP Council, town councils have lighter audit requirements and are not funded. Town councillors do not get paid, though some expenses may be reimbursed.
