Amber wildfire alert issued across Dorset

An amber wildfire alert has been issued for Dorset and Wiltshire due to dry conditions that allow fires to spread rapidly. The Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service is advising against barbecues and open flames in the countryside, especially in high-risk areas like heathlands and fields. Several heath fires, some possibly started deliberately, have already occurred this year. Group Manager Graham Kewley emphasizes the importance of public caution outdoors, urging proper disposal of cigarettes and quick reporting of fires. Individuals are reminded not to tackle large fires themselves, as early reporting can prevent escalation.
