Warning over illegal employment of school-age children

Dorset Council warns employers that school-age children need a valid work permit before starting any job, as part of Child Employment Month in April. The application for this free permit, which takes up to three weeks to process, is the employer’s responsibility and applies to young people aged 13 to Year 11. This system ensures that work is safe, appropriate, and does not interfere with education. Without a permit, young workers may lack insurance coverage in case of incidents. Compliance is crucial to avoid prosecution and invalid insurance, emphasizing the importance of safeguards for young workers.
