Meningitis response continues as thousands treated

Health officials report that over 1,800 students in Weymouth have received antibiotics following confirmed meningitis B cases. A total of 6,500 young people in Weymouth, Portland, and Chickerell are being offered treatment and vaccinations as a precautionary measure. The UK Health Security Agency continues its response, with no new cases reported. All three hospitalized patients have been discharged. Vaccination efforts are ongoing, including at various local schools. Health teams highlight the importance of recognizing meningitis symptoms—fever, headache, vomiting, and a non-fading rash—and encourage those with concerns to seek immediate medical help.
