Rise in e-bike and scooter fire incidents

In Dorset and Wiltshire, fire crews responded to 13 incidents involving electric bikes and scooters last year, with 9 e-bike fires and 4 e-scooter fires recorded, according to a Freedom of Information request. Nationally, over 600 similar fires were reported in the UK in 2025. Experts warn that batteries from poorly regulated online sources pose a higher risk of malfunction. Fire services emphasize the importance of using approved batteries and chargers to mitigate fire and electrical hazards associated with these vehicles.
