On September 27, 1988, Patricia Kirk, 49, endured a violent robbery at her Burley gift shop when a masked man struck her with a wrench for cash. Despite her injuries, she screamed, alerting a neighbor who witnessed the robber flee to a car. The ensuing police pursuit saw speeds reach nearly 100 mph, leading to two crashes before the suspect’s vehicle ultimately collided in a four-car pile-up. A 26-year-old man was arrested, while Kirk required stitches for her head wound and a police officer sustained injuries. On the same day, there were additional robbery attempts in the area.
