Households in Bournemouth, Christchurch, and Poole will face new council tax rates for the 2026/27 financial year, which is essential for funding local services. Council tax comprises two-thirds of the council’s budget, supplemented by business rates and grants. Introduced in 1993, council tax is based on property value bands and applies to all individuals over 18. Discounts exist for students, those living alone, and households with disabilities. BCP Council has increased the tax by 6.7%, exceeding the typical cap, using the additional funds to tackle debt from Special Educational Needs and Disabilities services.
