Upton Heath bid success welcomed by MP

Liberal Democrat MP Vikki Slade has welcomed the successful bid to save part of Upton Heath for nature, which was at risk of auction. The Dorset Wildlife Trust, with local councils and public donations, raised over £100,000 in two weeks to secure the site. Slade praised the community’s efforts but stressed the ongoing need for funding for restoration work. She has contacted the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs for support from a national species recovery fund. Upton Heath hosts diverse wildlife, highlighting the need for stronger protections for similar habitats. Slade plans to present a petition with over 1,500 signatures in Parliament.
