Dorset Police and the Police and Crime Commissioner have initiated a survey to gather residents’ opinions on the upcoming implementation of live facial recognition technology later this year. This system will use live camera feeds to identify individuals against a watchlist of offenders to enhance crime detection and public safety. David Sidwick emphasized the importance of strong safeguards, focusing on transparency, privacy, and public trust. Images of non-wanted individuals will be deleted immediately, and deployment locations will be communicated in advance. The survey is open until May 14, encouraging community participation.
