Help available for Dorset oil heating homes

Dorset households using oil heating can now apply for support if they are at risk of losing heating.

Funding has been made available through the Government’s Crisis and Resilience Fund to support low income households who rely on heating oil and are struggling with rising costs, particularly where tanks are running low and urgent top ups are needed.

To qualify, residents must be on a low income and meet specific criteria, including using oil as their main heating source, living in the property as their main residence, and being responsible for purchasing the fuel, with oil levels at 30% or below.

Households may be considered low income if they receive benefits such as Universal Credit, Pension Credit, Housing Benefit or Council Tax Support, or if they cannot manage essential costs without going into debt or going without basic needs like food.

Applicants will need to complete an online form providing details about household income and spending, although those already receiving Council Tax Support may not need to supply as much information.

Officials say evidence such as a photo or screenshot of an oil tank gauge may be required, and support is aimed at those facing an immediate risk of being unable to heat their home or access hot water.
