Wyke Regis junction works start in April

Wyke Regis will see junction upgrades begin in April to improve pedestrian safety locally.

From 13 April, work will take place at the junction of Portland Road with Merley Road and Langton Avenue, introducing new crossing points, widening sections of pavement and installing updated traffic signals to support safer movement.

During the project, temporary traffic lights will be in place to allow two-way traffic to continue along Portland Road, while also managing vehicle flow on Langton Avenue, with the aim of keeping disruption to a minimum for drivers.

Councillor Jon Andrews said the changes will make the area “far safer for pedestrians to cross”, adding that modern signals are also expected to improve how efficiently the junction works for vehicles moving through the area.

The scheme also includes extended parking restrictions to improve visibility, while all existing vehicle movements will remain possible, although Merley Road will be closed between Portland Road and Stoke Road during construction.

Access to nearby properties will still be available using alternative routes, and the work is expected to be completed by 5 June.
