Ferndown will see improvement works on Victoria Road begin in autumn 2026, following changes shaped by community feedback.
The scheme aims to create a greener, safer and more welcoming town centre, with designs updated after a 2025 consultation where residents asked for more planting, fewer bollards and heritage style features, alongside the removal of flagpoles.
In response, the revised plans include large planters for ornamental trees, heritage style street furniture and integrated planting beds to help discourage pavement parking, with Ferndown Town Council also committing to long term maintenance of the greenery.
Additional funding has been agreed between Ferndown Town Council and Dorset Council to support these changes, using a dedicated town centre reserve alongside Local Transport Grant funding from central government.
Councillor Lawrence Wilson said it had been important “not to rush” the project, adding that reducing bollards and increasing planting “will be in keeping with the constructive and valuable feedback received.”
Councillor Jon Andrews said the project shows how “local people can shape the improvements they want to see,” with the work forming part of a wider effort to improve accessibility and support local businesses in Ferndown’s town centre.
